Private document scanner

Scan documents without sending them to a scanner cloud.

Flatscan turns paper, photos, PDFs, and files into a local searchable archive on iPhone and iPad.

Use it when a document scanner needs to feel calm and predictable: scan with the camera, import existing files, run OCR on device, search saved text, and export PDFs only when you choose.

Flatscan privacy screen explaining local documents and no document uploads

Why it matters

Many scans are ordinary. Some are not.

Receipts, invoices, contracts, IDs, school forms, warranty papers, and personal notes can all contain details you would rather not upload by default. Flatscan is designed around a simpler promise: document images, OCR text, folders, thumbnails, and the search index stay in local app storage unless you decide to export or share a file.

Precise privacy copy

Flatscan does not claim magic privacy. It explains the actual model: no account, no analytics SDK, no ad SDK, no Flatscan document-upload service, and OCR through Apple's on-device Vision framework.

Private scanner workflow

A local document workflow, not just a camera button.

Scan or import

Capture paper with the iPhone camera, or bring in pages from Photos, Files, and PDFs.

Local OCR search

Recognized text is stored locally so you can find a word later without uploading document content.

Clean PDF export

Export a normal PDF without a watermark. Sharing uses Apple's system share sheet.

Searchable PDFs with Pro

When OCR is ready, Pro can create PDFs with selectable text for Preview, Files, or Acrobat.

Folders and batch actions

Keep documents organized as the archive grows, then move, export, or trash multiple files.

Network transparency

The public network page explains expected Apple and StoreKit network activity.

FAQ

Private document scanner questions.

Does Flatscan upload scanned documents?

No. Flatscan does not upload document images, PDFs, OCR text, search queries, or archive contents to Flatscan servers.

Is OCR local?

Yes. Flatscan uses Apple's Vision framework for on-device OCR. There is no Flatscan server-side OCR pipeline.

What happens if I export to Files or iCloud Drive?

That is your choice. Once you export, the document follows the destination you choose and your Apple account settings.
